Recently on 2'Feb 2020, MediaTek unveiled its latest 5G modem Helio M80. It is MediaTek's first 5G modem to support mmWave 5G network with a maximum of eight component carriers (8CC). Mediatek launched their first 5G modem, named Helio M70 in last year's Dimensity 1000 series processors, but this one only supports the sub-6Ghz network. Now the new Helio M80 5G modem will support both the mmWave and sub-6Ghz 5G networks thus making it more future-proof than that of Helio M70.
But before we go ahead make sure you follow the blog on Twitter and also press the bell icon so you are first to know whenever a new article drops. With all that said let's take a closer look at the Helio M80.
MediaTek M80 Features
As we already know that the new Helio M80 modem will support both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks. This is now capable of getting a maximum download speed of 7.67Gbps and upload speed of 3.76Gbps. This is quite a major improvement over the last year's Helio M70 which supports only 4.7Gbps and 2.5Gbps of download and upload speed respectively.
This will also support dual 5G connectivity and VoNR (Voice Over New Radio) on both the NSA (Non-standalone) and SA (Standalone) networks. It will also offer sub-6Ghz connectivity on more than two carrier aggregations, 5G+5G dual sim connectivity, Cat-19 LTE download link with 5CC & DSS (Dynamic Spectrum Sharing) for networks were no dedicated 5G band.
But the sad part is that MediaTek told that the new Helio M80 5G modem will be given to different OEMs in Q4 2020 and the smartphones with MediaTek processors with the new Helio M80 modem can be seen at the end of 2021 or in Q1 of 2022.
